School has overcome serious challenges since opening three years ago June 11, 2024 Ark Soane Academy staff and pupils after the school was given an ‘Outstanding’ rating after a recent Ofsted visit. The school on Gunnersbury Lane in Acton opened less than three years ago in September 2021 after a delay caused by the pandemic. Despite this uncertain start, the inspectors concluded that 'This is a school where pupils excel. Pupils and staff are proud to be a part of this school community' following their visit on 6 and 7 March. The report said the school is being 'well led by highly skilled and resilient leaders', with a curriculum 'expertly taught by highly skilled teachers with strong subject knowledge'. 'Teachers apply rigorous routines consistently that help to create an exceptionally supportive learning environment'. Inspectors said they were impressed by the school's wider opportunities for personal growth and development, including exploration days, daily family dining, and well-attended extracurricular clubs. "We are proud to receive such a glowing report," said Matthew Neuberger, Principal of Ark Soane. "I want to thank staff, governors and parents for their support and dedication. Your cumulative efforts enable us to deliver an ambitious education for our students. We will continue striving for excellence and ensure our young people have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed." Chair of Governors, Ann Ewing said, "This journey of resilience and commitment to excellence has culminated in today's outstanding rating from Ofsted. All of us are so proud to be part of the Ark Soane community." The school was given planning permission on the site of the former Acton College, which was part of Ealing Hammersmith & West London College in 2018, along with 116 housing units. Having grown from an initial Year 7 cohort, Ark Soane expects to reach its total capacity of 1,200 pupils by 2027. The report is available on the Ofsted website.
