A local nursery and children’s centre is celebrating after receiving two ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted inspections in six weeks.

South Acton Nursery School and Children’s Centre on Castle Close provides a nursery school and day care for children aged 0-5 years. It is one of the largest children’s centres in London and has specialist provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

The day care provision was inspected on 13 April this year and retained its existing ‘Outstanding’ rating. The report stated ‘children thrive at this exceptional nursery’ and that ‘highly reflective and thoughtful staff implement an extremely and well thought out curriculum’ meaning that ‘all children make outstanding progress from their starting points including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.’

The following month Ofsted informed the Nursery School that it was also to be inspected. The inspectors came for two days on 24 and 25 May.

Head of centre Mandy Roach said, “After two extremely busy days, we were thrilled to be given another ‘outstanding’ rating, building on our previously good / possibly outstanding rating from 2019. The report opened with the statement that ‘children arrive at this nursery with a smile on their face. They very much look forward to the fun and adventures that they will have each day.’

After visiting the mainstream and specialist provision inspectors recognised that ‘inclusion is at the heart of this nursery.’ Staff are highly skilled at supporting children with SEND.’

The inspectors added that ‘Staff are proud to work here.’

Ms Roach commented, “As Head Teacher, I feel immensely lucky to have such an amazing staff team and I am, indeed, extremely proud of all of them! It is such a privilege to work with wonderful children and families in Acton, providing an outstanding provision as they start in their journey of life and their education.”

The centre is also a finalists in the Inclusive Practice Award, the winners of which will be announced at the Nursery World Award Ceremony in September 2023.
