New proposal for development of Holiday Inn Express site
November 14, 2024 A planning application (244093OPDCOB) has been submitted for a 31-storey tower on Victoria Road overlooking the platforms at North Acton Station. Permission is being sought to demolish the five-storey 108 bed Holiday Inn Express hotel and replace it with two buildings, the larger of which would contain 609 bed spaces for students and the second would be 17-storey tower with 59 build to rent apartments 35% of which would be affordable. The development would also contain ground floor commercial and retail units fronting onto North Acton Station Square and Victoria Road The application is being made by GMD Developments Ltd, which is part of the Downing Group, to the Old Oak Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) which is the planning authority for this area rather than Ealing Council An earlier proposal for a 35-storey building containing 699 bed spaces was amended in response to comments from OPDC officers and the GLA. The site is bound by North Acton Station and newly completed North Acton Station Square to the immediate west and north, Victoria Road to the south, and student development known as ‘Holbrook House’ to the east. The tower, if completed, is likely to be visible on the skyline across wide parts of west London but would not be as tall as the existing 50 plus storey structures on Portal Way.
A different development at the other Holiday Inn site nearby at Gypsy Corner was given permission for the construction of two towers of 55 and 45 storeys in February 2020.
