Proposal Made to Redevelop Holiday Inn Express

Another proposal to build tall towers in the North Acton area has been submitted, this time for the site currently occupied by the Holiday Inn Express on Victoria Road.
Development company Downing has lodged a planning application with Ealing Council for two towers, 35 storeys and 17 storeys high close to North Acton underground station.
The taller tower would be for student accommodation with a mix of studios and shared apartments that would house 699 students.
The other tower would include 91 build-to-rent (BTR) flats, with 35% designated as affordable.
The two buildings would be linked by a four-storey podium.

Downing director Paul Houghton was quoted in the property press as saying, “We are proud of the part we have played in working with the council to shape North Acton to become the place it is today.
“Our proposals, if approved, will see us deliver our third purpose-built student accommodation development in the area. We pride ourselves on helping to transform places by creating high quality spaces that enhance the local community and bring together the neighbourhood.”
The application reference on the Ealing Council planning portal is 231509OPDCOB but, at the time of writing, no documentation has been posted related to the scheme.
Downing did not reply to our request for comment on its plan.

A different development at the other Holiday Inn site nearby at Gypsy Corner was given permission for the construction of two towers of 55 and 45 storeys in February 2020. There has been no recent update on if or when construction will start on this project.
