Barratt London is about to begin a consultation exercise as what it describes as emerging proposals for a site at the junction of Horn Lane and the A40 Western Avenue.

The developer acquired the plot, which has been dubbed Cloister Corner, from Clearview last year. The brownfield site, which was previously a bus depot has been vacant for over 20 years. The previous owner had received planning permission to build 149 flats in blocks up to nine storeys high on the site back in 2018 but never proceeded and Barratt now says it is taking a ‘fresh look’ at the site.

It has employed Allies and Morrison to draw up a new design which it will be putting on public display later this month. There was no response to a request for more details about the planned development including the likely height but the company has said there will be more affordable housing than in the previous proposal and it will include a new pedestrian link through to North Acton Station. It is not clear at this stage whether this would be by means of a tunnel.

Some local residents fear that the opportunity will be taken to try to gain permission for buildings which are much taller than in the previously approved design.
