Laura Forsyth, the owner of The Village Trading Store on Churchfield Road, has announced that the shop is to close.
The popular orange store has been a fixture on the street for the last fifteen years but Laura has decided not to renew the lease which is up for renewal.
It will remain open through the Christmas period and serve its last customer at the end of January next year.
Having worked as a television props buyer and set decorator, the daughter of Bruce, one of the nation’s most popular ever entertainers, launched the store just before Christmas in 2009 and crammed it with all sorts of gifts, homeware, jewellery, vintage clothing and character furniture.
In a post announcing the closure she said, “This decision is not with a heavy heart, I have had many wonderful memories. Even through uncertain times, I have kept smiling, celebrating the friendship and loyalty of our amazing customers, particularly during the pandemic when your loyalty kept us going. “

Products from The Village Trading Store will continue to be available online and there is a chance for some late-night shopping this Friday and Saturday (29 & 30 November) with a glass of fizz also on offer.
Laura said, “I have had a vision to bring the community something special and I thank you so much for making it a reality, what a wonderful journey thanks to all of you.”

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.
Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.
However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
