Residents of Acton have been taking part in Reduce and Recycle Hubs at Acton Market since last October.

During that time, the organisers have calculated that the initiative has helped achieved a reduction in carbon emissions (CO2) of 2.83 tonnes.

The Traid recycling station that collects clothing, shoes and small electrical items to prevent them going to landfill has gathered 284kg of unwanted clothes and shoes and 96kg of appliances. In addition, it has been worked out that 450.7m3 of water savings have been made.

The next Reduce and Recycle Hub takes place this Saturday (3 June) on the Mount. As ever there will be a host of local organisations and businesses coming along on to help people in Acton to #reduce, #reuse and #recycle.

The market’s local foodie stalls will be back so you can sample the flavours of Ghana, India and Lebanon.

Other old and unloved items that you can bring to the site include laptops for donation to the Fixing Factory (www.fixingfactory.org), pens and writing instruments, toothbrushes and other dental items.

Ealing Repair Café (www.ealingrepaircafe.org) will be there to help you learn how to fix your clothes and you can get your Bikes checked with Dr Bike (2 pm-5 pm). You can also drop off your tools with the Renew Sharpening Service (for which there is a charge) or speak to them about their services.

There will also be a chance to reuse items by shopping with pre-loved traders or with stall holders many who sell returns and seconds from the high street at a reduced price. They generally offer sportswear, womenswear and menswear.

There will also be a Book Swap where you can bring and take items with the Churchfield Community Association.

For more information and links to hub stall holders the Reduce and Recycle Hub’s web page.

If your organisation, community group or you as a trader are interested in getting a stall or can volunteer to help run some of the activities, email mary.horesh@actionwestlondon.org.uk.

The subsequent date for the Reduce and Recycle hub is Saturday 8 July and generally after that on the first Saturday of the month.

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
