Michael Fletcher hit by car while cycling on A4
Michael Fletcher, who was a regular contributor to the BrentfordTW8.com forum, has been killed in a road accident. He was hit by a car (not a truck as originally reported) last Wednesday whilst cycling on the A4. Michael was actively involved in local community affairs helping the Brentford Community Council with scrutiny of planning applications to try and help ensure that developments were in the best interests of residents. He campaigned for better cycling provision in Brentford and the rest of the borough. Chris Calvi-Freeman, Head of Transport, London Borough of Hounslow said on the BrentfordTW8.com forum, "His input, alongside that of other like-minded and public-spirited individuals, has positively influenced the provision of cycling facilities in this borough." Andrew Dakers, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Brentford said, "He and I shared a frustration with the maintenance of the cycle path along the Great West Rd (glass, potholes etc) - perhaps what led him to take the risk of cycling on the main road. I would welcome ideas in the coming weeks for how we could remember his contribution to our community in a practical way that helps prevent the unnecessary loss of other cyclists' lives." He was remembered with a brief silence at the switching on of the Brentford Christmas lights on Friday. The Police are having trouble tracking down next of kin.
