Family plea to find maroon Renault Laguna

The family of Marcus MacFarlane, 18, who was killed by a hit and run driver last Sunday 11th June have made a plea for help in tracing the car that caused his death. Emphasising that they want justice rather than revenge they have called on anyone who may have information to inform the police.

Their statement reads, "Someone was with the driver that killed Marcus. Someone was in the car when it drove off. Other people must have seen a Maroon Renault Laguna with damage to the front. Please tell the police. Our family have lost a loving son, brother and uncle. So many people have lost a good friend. We don't want to lose our faith in the common decency of the public."

Marcus died hours after spending Saturday watching the World Cup with his friends and family. The police responded to a call at around 12.33am on Sunday. Marcus had been at the Osterley Park Hotel.

He was in the carriageway at a crossing point when the car, which was travelling east bound, was in collision with him and failed to stop at the scene. Police believe that the car will have sustained substantial damage to the front. It is believed to be a Maroon four door hatchback Renault Laguna, circa 1995/1996 with two occupants. Enquiries continue and no arrests have been made.

Marcus was about to start a degree course at Kingston University. He had been working three days a week at Millets to pay for his car and was about to be made a supervisor. He had been a member of the local Marine Cadets and been made Cadet of the Year two years running. After university he was planning to become a Civil Engineer (or 'concrete doctor' as he called it). His plans included taking a Masters degree to achieve his aims.

His family said of Marcus, "Marcus was 18. He had his whole life in front of him. He loved his family and friends and all of us miss him. We remember him as smiling and joking. He loved life. He was particularly fond of his sister's children. We are finding it very hard to explain to them that they will never see their uncle again. All that has now been taken from him. We can never have Marcus back. "
