A newly formed women’s rugby league team has made a winning start in its first competitive fixture.

Wests Warriors Ladies Rugby League Club was set up just two months ago based at the Wasps FC ground off Twyford Avenue in Acton.

The men’s team was started in 2014 and currently competes in the Southern Conference League (tier 4) and the London Men’s League (tier 5) of the British Rugby League system.

The Rugby Football League recently confirmed the women’s team would be competing in the open age Tier 3 (League 1) competition this year.

The team made its competitive debut this Sunday (23 June) in the Women’s L1 South (West) festival organised by the London Broncos at Rosslyn Park in Roehampton.

It managed to win its first ever game 26 - 8 against Bristol.

A spokesperson for the team said, “We have been fortunate to have had a lot of success with the Men’s competitions over the years and hope to emulate that success with our women’s side but we are under no illusion it will take time, hard work and dedication on and off the pitch.

“It’s been a long time coming and a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get to this point.”
