Acton Town Hall library is to be closed for over four months at the beginning of next month to allow refurbishment to take place.

The council says it is part of a £900,000 programme of investment to create spaces for community and cultural events at three libraries, the others being Northolt and the Dominion Centre in Southall and that all existing services will be maintained after the changes have been made.

While the work is taking place, a temporary library will be set up on the ground floor of the building on Acton High Street.

Visitors will still be able to use the libraries’ computers and tablets or bring their own devices and use extra digital plug-in points being installed. An upgrade to the technology at the library is planned.

The work is being funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocated to Ealing Council by the government.

Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said, “We want to continue supporting our libraries to be vibrant and inviting places for the community, which is why we’re making this significant investment in them.

“Books will always be at the heart of our libraries but by making the spaces more flexible they can provide so much more, from entertainment, drama performances on a stage in the library to community meetings or celebrations.

Library members will still have access to the 24/7 online resources, be able to order books online, and collect books from other libraries in the borough.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
