A drug dealer from North Acton has been jailed for ten years after being found in possession of a firearm.

The weapon was discovered when 20-year-old Joseph Katende of Cotton Avenue was stopped by police in Oxford on 12 March this year and drugs were also found on him during a search.

He was convicted of dealing Class A drugs including heroine and cocaine as well as a number of finances. The charges also related to incidents which occurred in Slough in July 2023.

He was sentenced following a hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Monday, 18 November.

At the same court on May 13, Katende pleaded guilty to four counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, heroin and cocaine, and one count each of; possession of cannabis, possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of ammunition without a firearms certificate.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Chris Bennett, said: “We will never tolerate drug dealing in our communities, which often harm the most vulnerable people.

“We will continue to proactively target and prosecute offenders, like Katende, and we will be visible and covert in our efforts to disrupt and pursue offenders who are involved in the supply of drugs.

“The information from the public around the drug supply offences plays an important role in developing intelligence into a proactive investigation.”
