Plastic Free July competition launched
June 26, 2024 Reduce and Recycle hub is returning to Acton Market on Saturday 6 July with the aim of encouraging people to reduce waste and recycle more in Acton and surrounding areas. A number of organisations and volunteers involved in reducing, reusing items and recycling attend the event monthly on the first Saturday of the month. For full list of dates see Reduce and Recycle events. The next event is in Plastic Free July and a competition has been launched to mark the occasion. You are urged to make a special effort to make a change when it comes to using single use plastic. This could be swapping:

At July’s hub, ReActon will be selling a selection of pre-loved bikes for both adults and kids. ReActon bike stall will also be offering free tyre and chain checks and low cost bike servicing where you would be charged for the parts used. The Walk and Wheel W3 hub is based in Friary Park estate close to Acton Main Line (beside the Friary Park community centre) and is run by Sustrans. The Sustrans team will be at the Reduce and Recycle hub if you want to talk about how you can travel more actively to benefit your health and the health of the planet. In Friary park hub you can borrow a cycle, talk about quiet walking and cycling routes, receive some training or guidance on riding a bike. For use and swaps there are several opportunities. You can bring a book and take a book, with the book swap organised by the Churchfield Community Association. Cultivate London will be on site with seeds to swap or take away and you can grab a bargain at stall holders many of whom sell returns and seconds from the high street at a reduced price including sportswear, womenswear and menswear. Plus there’stasty local foodie stalls will be onsite so you can sample the flavours of Ghana, India and Lebanon. Cultivate London will be on site with plants and seeds. They also will share information about their green spaces and the Acton Green composting project. Mindfood will be at the hub from 10 am – 1 pm. Mindfood teach food-growing courses to connect people with nature and their community, and share practical techniques to nurture better mental health. They run sessions 6 days a week and also run art sessions and garden diy groups, see Latest Courses. Ealing Friends of the Earth will be at the hub from 10am-12.30pm to give updates on the local issues and campaigns around air pollution, climate change, nature and biodiversity. Reduce and Recycle Hub 2023 review says that 599kg of unwanted clothes and shoes have been saved from landfill by Traid, which reduced carbon emissions (CO2) by 8.40 tonnes and water savings of 711m3 and 163 kgs of small electrical items collected and recycled.
