Local MP suggests new venues and urges replacement service as soon as possible
A campaign is underway to find a new post office site in Acton after the King Street branch closed down leaving the centre without a postal facility. Residents, angry over the closure, held a demonstration outside the branch with the support of local MP, Rupa Huq. The Ealing Central and Acton member has been in contact with the Post Office alerting them to the urgent need for a replacement and sent photos of vacant shops which she believes could provide suitable venues.
Writing to Paula Vennells, Chief Executive of the Post Office she said: '' Acton is not just a small village, the post office offered residents of its town centre a vital service. In the age of the loneliness agenda such venues should be cherished and hung onto not surendered with NO replacement.'' The Post Office say that in the short term they are expanding capacity at nearby branches to cope with demand over the Christmas period and are working with Ealing Council’s Economic Regeneration Team to try and identify possible locations for Post Offices in Acton – and, across the rest of the borough. 7th November 2018
