House on 'Only Fools and Horses' estate sells for £1.1 million
A house on the South Acton estate - where Only Fools and Horses was filmed - has been sold for more than a million pounds. The former council estate - which comprised of 50 tower blocks - was built between the fifties and seventies and is undergoing a huge transformation with the old housing stock all due to be demolished by 2024 and replaced by a mix of private and affordable housing. The area has been used as a backdrop for a variety of films and television programmes including war-torn Bosnia in Welcome to Sarajevo and the 2010 version of Brighton Rock. In the famous Del Boy sit-com, Harlech Tower, is known as Nelson Mandela House and is supposedly in Peckham. The area has been rebranded as Acton Gardens and according to the website blurb '' is the dynamic new development that is transforming the face of its neighbourhood.'' Prices for one bedroom apartments in West Park Terrace are from £425,000, two bedroom apartments start from £570,000 and the three-bed überhaus penthouses are available from £700,000 The Evening Standard report that a property has recently exchanged for a record breaking £1.1million pounds. Mike Woolliscroft, a director at Countryside, told the newspaper: “We now look forward to building on the success achieved so far by continuing to engage with the community in the remainder of the regeneration programme. 23 November 2016
