Piece from Will's and Kate's eight-tier fruitcake could raise five figure sum
If you have always wanted to own a slice of the Prince William and Kate’s wedding cake a chance will present itself at Chiswick Auctions on Bollo Lane next month. A piece from the eight-tier fruit cake is being put up for sale at the auction house on 27 September.
The cake was designed by Fiona Cairns and was the centrepiece of Prince William and Kate’s reception at Buckingham Palace. The new owner of the cake will also get a specially-designed cream and gold commemorative tin which was given to a guest at the wedding in 2011. The tin also comes with a card saying, “With best wishes from TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The theme of the cake was the ‘language of flowers’ a design requested by Kate Middleton. It contains seventeen different types of foliage each with its own symbolic significance. The guide price for the cake is around £1,000 but another slice sold for $10,000 back in 2014 and the seller will be hoping to top that amount.
