Dismay Over Sudden Closure of Fed & Watered |

Churchfield Road restaurant had been rated by many as Acton's best
August 24, 2023 There has been widespread disappointment at the sudden closure of what many believed was the best restaurant in Acton. The closure of Fed & Watered on Churchfield Road was announced in a post on Instagram by the owner Chris Walsh. The upmarket establishment had managed to survive for over three years despite the inauspicious timing of its launch during the pandemic. It had become the favourite ‘treat’ venue for W3 residents with its predominantly British-based menu and had featured as a location on the BBC TV comedy series Motherland. The premises on the corner of Myrtle Road were marked out by the famous ‘Shisoka’ mural. The owner said, “The reality, like so many other hospitality businesses is that we now have to draw a line as we simply can’t continue with ‘Fed & Watered’ as is any longer. Despite the highs & successes it has in reality been a long period of constant ‘business knock down blows’ since the pandemic to the current constant commercial pressures provided by the wider economy. Until this summer we managed to get back up and ‘go another round’ however the cumulative effect of all the ‘commercial & market challenges’ has meant that F&W cannot continue as is and as such our shutters are down & the ovens off. It’s also not just the challenging macro market conditions but I also believe that we tried to deliver a certain ‘offering’ that we didn’t quite ‘nail/ get right’ in order to survive here on our corner on Churchfield Road – we just couldn’t get the place busy enough. “Today I want to acknowledge the 100’s of wonderful customers who have visited F&W over the years and especially the ‘many’ who kept coming back and back (you know who you are - myself and the team certainly do). We have a great neighbourhood community here in W3 which is further amplified with all the Businesses, their Owners and Teams that make Churchfield Road what it is. “ One regular customer said, “I feel a bit guilty now for not going more often as the ‘use or lose it’ principle applies even though I have visited just about every month over the last year. It’s a real blow to Churchfield Road but hopefully a new café restaurant will take up the premises and maintain the mural.”
