Investigation into Shooting of Fernando Johnson Making 'Good Progress' | |
Police appeal for doorbell camera and dashcam footage February 9, 2023 The investigation into the fatal shooting of a man in Acton is making good progress according to the police but they are continuing to appeal for information. Fernando Johnson, aged 23, was gunned down near his home in Rosebank Way as he was getting out of his BMW at around 2.15am on Thursday 26 January. Paramedics attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Initially, the police were unsure whether he had been shot or stabbed but a post mortem determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound. According to family members, Mr Johnson was set upon by two men but the police have not yet confirmed these details. The following Saturday (28 January), a man in his twenties was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody but was later released on bail. The police are still trying to piece together what exactly happened on the night of the shooting and are now asking people living in the area to forward and doorbell or dashcam footage that may be relevant to the investigation. A web portal has been launched for members of the public to upload material that could assist the investigation directly to police. Mr Johnson worked as a trainee electrician but also had a budding career as a drill rapper and used the stage name FDot. A family statement issued by the cousin to the Evening Standard said, “He was greatly loved by family and friends and well known to the community he always had a smile on his face and greeted everyone with a big smile and hug. “He was a loving family man. He wanted the world to hear his story through his music. He was passionate about achieving his ambitions. “He was a talented footballer and played for QPR as a youngster. He was very polite and brilliant with people of all ages. It’s a great loss to the family and community, we will make sure his memory lives on. His mother, father, grandmother and two elder brothers are devastated like all of us. He was the apple of their eye.” Detective Chief Inspector Matt Denby, senior investigating officer, said, "My team are making good progress with their enquiries but, as always, we are keen to hear who might have been in and around the area at the time of this incident. "A web portal has been launched for members of the public to upload material that could assist our investigation directly to us. I urge you to check doorbell cameras and dash cam footage for anything you may have captured - it doesn't matter if you think it is insignificant, we still want to receive it."
