A 25 year-old man has been arrested following the car crash in Fulham in the early hours of Tuesday August 9 which caused the death of nursery nurse Acacia Smith.

The man is understood to be her boyfriend Craig Kearney, who was driving the car. Following the crash, he was taken to a west London hospital in a serious condition.

Police say he was discharged from hospital on Wednesday, August 17 and arrested by detectives from Wandsworth police on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and Prison Act offences.

He was also arrested by detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed to return to a police station on a date in mid-October.

Acacia Smith, 25, known to friends as Caysha, died when the car smashed into a wall and burst into flames in Ashcombe Street at the junction of Wandsworth Bridge Road in Fulham.

Police say they were called at 3.04am on Tuesday August 9 to reports of a drone being flown near to Wandsworth Prison.

The fatal collision happened minutes later at 3.10am in Wandsworth Bridge Road.

Ms Smith, a former Acton High School pupil had worked at a number of nurseries around the Acton area. Her friends have said that they have no idea what she might have been doing in the area of Wandsworth Prison at that time of night.

Reportedly a drone was found in the wreckage of the car the couple were driving.

A spokeswoman for HM Prison Service: "On Tuesday 9 August, staff at HMP Wandsworth alerted the Metropolitan police to a drone flying in close proximity to the prison, as is standard practice."

A formal investigation into the circumstances of the crash has been launched by the police watchdog.

Police say enquiries continue.
