Musical schoolchildren at West Twyford Primary School will be recording their own song this year.

It comes after a successful end of term when, for the first time in the school's history they were invited to the prestigious Music for Youth National Festival in Birmingham.

A group of 44 children made the trip to perform in the World, Folk & Roots category at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Centre.

Taking the main stage, the children sang call and response songs from Ghana.

Rachel Martin, Headteacher, said “I am so proud of the children.  They were so confident and sang beautifully; one of the mentors told me that the children’s singing gave him goose bumps!”

The group progressed to the National Festival after competing at the Regional MFY festival in Ruislip.

Jenny Parker, Music Teacher, commented, “We have a wonderful group of children who meet every week for choir practice. The opportunity to perform at the festival in front of a large audience is an experience they will never forget.”

The school plans to build on this success.  As well as keyboard and ukulele lessons, there will be song writing workshops and plans are underway for the children to make their own recording.
