A new skateboarding park could be built in Acton. The proposal is out for consultation and residents have until 16 September to submit responses. The council say the feedback will be taken into consideration when drawing up final plans.
Despite the popularity of skateboarding and its recent adoption as an Olympic sport, there are'nt many skate parks in the west London area with just one in Ealing ( at Gurnell). Skaters have to use non-designated public areas or travel to access other facilities.
Under the proposals, the council say the skate park would be carefully designed and landscaped to fit into the park.
They say their approach to designing the skate park is to 'integrate the facility into the community, to provide a safe environment for users and to encourage spectators to enjoy watching the skills and dedication on display'.
The council’s existing skate park facility near Gurnell Leisure Centre in Perivale has proven popular and
Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure said:
“The current skate park we have is a fantastic facility that's well used and gives young people a safe space to enjoy. We want to hear from local residents about our proposals to build a brand new skate park in Acton and I encourage everyone to have their say.
“We are committed to providing first-class facilities in the borough for young people taking part in sports. These proposals will give skaters a great space to enjoy and practice their sport in a safe environment and provide a real community asset.”
