McDonald's and Mayor Help Acton's Homeless | |
Free meal vouchers handed out to those in need
Ealing's Mayor visited McDonalds in Acton last weekend to support the local franchise in their efforts to help the homeless.
Councillor Dr Patricia Walker, was supporting her chosen charity - Acton Homeless Concern, by offering vouchers to those who need them. Around fifty people attended the event and speaking afterwards, Atul Pathak, whose company Appt Corporation operates the restaurant on the High Street said: ''Back in the summer, I went out with the street pastors in Ealing town centre and was struck that some people were having to sleep rough. “In the last week or so we have all noticed how much colder it has become. When the Mayor asked me to help her chosen charity which is based in Acton I immediately knew we had a duty to help. My colleagues and I at the Acton McDonald’s are touched by the plight of those who are homeless and that is why we were pleased not just to provide a meal for those who need it through Acton Homeless Concern but wanted to serve them ourselves. Atul Pathak added ''Acton Homeless Concern provides a tremendous service to the poor of the Borough. They feed the hungry six days a week. We thought it would be a treat, on the day the Emmaus Centre is closed, and inparticular on this the first weekend of the Christmas season, to offer the present of a tasty hot meal to the needy. The mayor added, “Ealing is a thriving and prosperous Borough, yet it is gratifying that a successful business can also show it has a caring heart”.
