Katie Melua Visits Emmaus House | ||||
International pop star is making a radio series about homelessness
Earlier this month the internationally famous singer-songwriter Katie Melua paid a visit to Emmaus House in Acton. She’s making a BBC Local Radio series about homelessness to be broadcast around Christmas and wanted to investigate how people are helped by organisations like the Felix Project and Acton Homeless Concern. She arrived during one of the centre’s busy lunchtimes and talked to clients, volunteers and the centre’s manager Ian Breen. She said she was trying to go behind the headlines and find out more about the reality for people living in poverty and homelessness. A TV crew was following her to film a trailer for the series. Emmaus House said, “Our thanks go to Katie and her team for making these important programmes and bringing our work to a wider audience.” Acton Homeless Concern’s activities include free takeaway hot lunches from Emmaus House in Acton and a drop-in facility at the nearby Damien Centre offering free teas, coffees and a friendly chat.
