New Acton Club For Young Disabled Women | ||||
Sports and activities 'Girls Win' at The Acton Centre every Wednesday
A new free social club for young disabled women has been launched in Acton. The Acton Centre, operated by Everyone Active, will be running the club every Wednesday from 5pm-6:30pm in partnership with The Change Foundation. The new sports and activities social club “Girls Win” aims to bring together and empower young women with a disability. The club uses a goal-setting approach to sports and physical activities to show the young women how setting goals can help them become more positive about their future and use physical activity to foster a healthier mind and body. By providing a space for the young women to socialize, the club hopes to expand the young women’s friendship circles and increase their confidence by reducing the social isolation that young women with a disability may feel. The sessions will feature a range of group sports and activities all completely free and tailored to the preferences and needs of the members in the club. Typical sports include table tennis, football and netball as well as fun activities like dance and exercising to music. The club will also offer other exciting free opportunities like work placements and apprenticeships with The Change Foundation’s corporate partner Investec, to help increase the young women’s independence. The Change Foundation’s Girls Win club has so far helped over 50 girls and young women aged 11-21 with a disability across London. “At The Change Foundation we’re really excited to be growing our Girls Win programme in Ealing” says Maddy Ford, Women and Girls Programme Manager. “We’re really looking forward to the weekly community sessions and offering young women with a disability lots of exciting opportunities such as an inclusive sports festival and fun and inspiring workshops from our partners Investec!”. “We’re thrilled to be the hosts of the newest Girls Win club and be involved with such a great cause to help these young women gain some really valuable life skills” says Everyone Active General Manager, Paul Palmer.
