Descendants running sessions at the Acton Gardens Community Centre
October 5, 2023 The Descendants Charity is currently running a children’s project open to ages 6-16 at the Acton Gardens Community Centre (W3 8UU). The project runs every Wednesday, 4.30pm-6.30pm and costs £3.00 a session. This year the participants are working on ‘The GRIP’ a collaborative piece of art which will celebrate the 75 th anniversary of the Windrush generation. During this 6-week project with artist, Candice Rodney-Sobers, each session will use creative techniques to explore the transition from the Caribbean to the UK and its impact generationally. Work and interpretations created by the children and young people will contribute towards a large textile piece that will later be exhibited at a Black History Month event on Saturday 28 October. The sessions will exercise a number of educational skills such as reading, writing, mathematics, textiles, art and design.
