Free martial arts classes run Professor Marcus Cabeca
Young people in Acton are being given the chance to take free martial arts classes run by the man who trained actors in Star Wars and Assassin's Creed. Professor Marcus Cabeca teaches Capoeira, which is an Afro Brazilian Martial Art created during the 16th century by the slaves in Brazil as a means of protecting themselves from their oppressors. Iit weaves together dance, acrobatics, music and self-defense. A Brazilian from Sao Paulo, Professor Marcus Cabeca has over 20 years experience in Capoeira and has been teaching in Kingston and Acton since 2006. He is well known throughout the Capoeira community in both the UK and Brazil. As well as teaching Capoeira to students, he also runs classes for SKY TV and has lent his expertise to help train actors in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed and Star Wars films Professor Marcus Cabeca’s School of Capoeira has received funding from FreeSport to run free sports activities for Londoners. The FreeSport initiative is organised by the Mayor of London and works in partnership with Coca-Cola Zero and their Park Lives scheme. It's a small grants programme that donates £1500 to 150 organisations across London every 2 years. The aim is to give opportunities for more people to engage in a sporting or physical activity. The FreeSport Capoeira sessions will be running for 12- 25 year-olds Wednesdays at 7.30pm, Acton Reynolds Sports Centre from September 7th to October 26th 2016.
